The Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality Launches the First African Eco Mark Program for Sustainable Medical Tourism in Egypt

The Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS) has announced the launch of the first program for granting the African Eco Mark for Sustainable Medical Tourism (ECO MARK AFRICA – SUSTAINABLE MEDICAL TOURISM) in Egypt. This step is considered the first of its kind at the regional level and comes within the framework of activating the outcomes of cooperation with the African Organization for Standardization (ARSO), with the aim of enhancing the quality of medical and logistical services across the African continent.

Dr. #Khaled_Soufi, Chairman of EOS and President of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), emphasized that this program reflects Egypt’s commitment to leading quality and sustainability efforts in Africa. He noted that EOS does not only grant certifications, but also works to build an integrated system that supports medical institutions and wellness resorts, providing them with real tools to compete in global markets. He added that aligning national standards with African and international standards, such as ISO 22525 and ARS-4, is a key pillar in strengthening Egypt’s position as a leading destination for medical tourism, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services characterized by efficiency, sustainability, and transparency.

The Certification Unit for Services and Operations at EOS will oversee all auditing and certification processes, operating as an independent and impartial body to ensure that medical institutions comply with African standards based on international specifications. This will contribute to enhancing the confidence of international insurance companies and medical tourism program organizers worldwide.

In the same context, Dr. #Heba_Saad, Head of the Certification Unit for Services and Operations, stated that obtaining the ECO MARK AFRICA provides institutions with broad opportunities to strengthen their presence in regional and international markets. This is achieved through their inclusion on platforms affiliated with ARSO, in addition to improving operational efficiency through the implementation of quality systems and resource optimization, as well as enhancing international credibility by adhering to patient protection standards and environmental and social responsibility.

She added that the mark also contributes to achieving strategic alignment with Egypt Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), opening new horizons for obtaining regional and international support, while reducing administrative and procedural risks associated with dealing with international patients.

Coinciding with the program launch, the Certification Unit for Services and Operations will organize a specialized technical workshop aimed at introducing medical institutions to the requirements for obtaining the mark, explaining the mechanisms for applying quality and sustainability indicators, and qualifying technical and administrative personnel. This will enhance the readiness of the medical sector to join the sustainable medical tourism ecosystem.

This initiative reaffirms that adherence to standards is the true foundation for global competitiveness, and that the African Eco Mark for Sustainable Medical Tourism represents a strategic step toward a more competitive and prosperous future for this vital sector in Egypt and across Africa.
